Song Five (I Still Miss You!)

This song is the fifth song I’ve written, and the first one that I recorded with a proper USB condense mic (I’d used my Iphone for recording before that). It’s a Samson G Track Pro mic that I bought on Black Friday sale while on a road trip in Florida. Beside the obvious higher audio quality that came with the mic, I’ve discovered that the mic is not just a recording tool, but also a part of my musical instruments.

I’ve learned to create various effects with my singing voice by control the distance from my mouth to the mic, and the angle I sing into it. It’s fascinating! I can whisper into it, I can shout, I can reason with it in a calm voice, or let out a little quiver. There are also different mic modes, which also affect the sounds, for example: Cardioid seems to create a more intimate sound, more passionate, while Omni is mellow or a bit distant.

I really enjoy singing. While singing my songs for recording, I get to know the songs on a deeper level. I see things that I didn’t see when writing, emotions that I didn’t know I felt. There are different nuances that I could add on and would change the meaning of part of the song. I realized that singing is not just performing what I’ve created, it is also a part of my creating process.
