Hello Saturday!
Occasionally I get requests from friends to write songs about certain topics. Here’s the thing, dear friends:
I don’t write what people want me to write.
I don’t write what I want me to write, either.
I only write what moves me. And what that is, I never know until it happens.
There were things that I thought they would really touch me, and they did nothing much. And there were things that moved me surprisingly, beyond my comprehension! So every time I write a song, it’s an adventure: I discover things about myself that I don’t yet know.
I think it’s great, so I intend to keep it that way, for as long as I can!
On the same line with that, people’s reactions to my songs are quite unpredictable to me. I could never guess who would be touched by which. There were songs I felt unsure, or even a little embarrassed about, and someone would say, “Hey, it’s my favourite!” And then there were songs I felt very strongly about, and people didn’t say much.
And I’m okay with that. I learn not to worry too much about that. 🙂
For me, it’s never just about writing songs. It’s about seeking my own truth and having something to say about it.
